beachbog.jpgYou are probably thinking (like I am) that for someone who hates airports and airplanes as much as I do I surely spend a lot of time at, on or near them. I am sure my wonderful dog and cat sitters think the same thing. Anyway, I am out of here for another week and thought you might like to read the types of stuff I find both disturbing and interesting before I travel.

- I know you will find this shocking but the State Department may have overcharged all of us on this new Passport requirement fiasco. “First, Americans endured exasperating delays and ruined vacations from passport processing backlogs. Now, a congressional investigation indicates they may have been overcharged, too — perhaps by more than $100 million a year.”

- Speaking of passports, my one year old great nephew had to get his own passport to travel to Canada this past summer. It is good for five years. Think he will look the same at five years old as he did at 10 months?

- Check out these bizarre surcharges that you may find on your next trip.

- For those of us that have flight anxiety this story will not make you feel any better. Two pilots on the red eye from Baltimore to Denver allegedly fell asleep and were awakened by frantic calls that they were approaching the airport at twice the speed allowed. OY!

- This won’t make you feel any better about traffic control either. Have you seen that iPhone commercial with the pilot who tells us that he was working a flight from Chicago to Newark, says he’s notified by the tower of a three hour weather delay. Skeptically, he whips out the iPhone and browses over to weather.com to see that there is no weather en route. He calls his dispatcher, and within minutes, they’re cleared for takeoff. iPhone to the rescue.

- Don’t look now but the spontaneity of travel is going to probably be a thing of the past with the TSA’s wish list of items including “all airline passengers would need advance permission before flying into, through, or over the United States regardless of citizenship or the airline’s national origin.” The time frame for receiving that permission: 72 hours.

- This video made me really laugh out loud. See you soon.
