I'm glad I read this before paying to see the movie. The book is excellent and the casting looked true to the book. Ah, oh well. Thanks!

Ah, Carol. I do not know whether you are lucky or not to have witnessed the flame shooting head trick on so many an occasion. But happy that you are still around to tell the tale.

I saw this wonderful film in the delightful town of Claremont, Ca. The audience was rivited to the screen and stayed for the credits, which contained mostly unknown names and with which there was no accompanying music. It seemed like a documentary or reality TV but of a much higher caliber. Shame on Chile for not submitting this film for Oscar consideration. Surely Catalina Saavedra deserves recognition.

I have seen other references to Bach and Brahms (and even Beethoven!) music in the soundtrack of the film Departures, yet the CD cover says all the pieces are original compositions by Joe Hisaishi. I have been unable to find a track listing anywhere that references Bach or Brahms . . . What led you to believe those composers' works are included in the soundtrack?
