Quagmire Redux August 23, 2007

hawkblog.jpgDid you hear Bush yesterday as he did another 180 and is now comparing Iraq to Vietnam? The ironic twist here is that his comparison addresses itself to the idea that if we had stayed in Vietnam longer we would have won. He pities the ‘folks’ we left behind in Vietnam to become boat people, encampmentees or part of the killing fields. This guy will try any tactic to continue to avoid the truth and reality of the quagmire we are in this time in a place called Iraq.

–  How many wives and lovers are too many for Conservatives to swallow?  Apparently it is convenient to parade your wife and kids to win an election but when the ex-wife and kids are not on your team anymore it suddenly becomes a private affair. Hmm.

–  Karl Rove’s greatest hits by Jon Stewart (who is perhaps one of the elite, effete snobs Rove speaks about).

–  Here kitty, kitty! How long does your kitty remember stuff? It turns out – not so long at all.

–  Media Putz of the Week goes to CNBC’s Erin Burnett. I heard her outreagoues staement last week when she said:

A lot of people like to say, uh, scaremonger about China, right?A lot of politicians, and I know you talk about that issue all the time. I think people should be careful what they wish for on China. You know, if China were to revalue its currency or China is to start making say, toys that don’t have lead in them or food that isn’t poisonous, their costs of production are going to go up and that means prices at Wal-Mart here in the United States are going to go up too. So, I would say China is our greatest friend right now, they’re keeping prices low and they’re keeping the prices for mortgages low, too.

–  Rudy Watch Continues: Rudy has come out with his foreign policy initiatives as he continues his quest to be King. Read some of his ideas and weep.

The Republican presidential frontrunner, former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani, has just written his foreign policy credo for Foreign Affairs magazine. It is a truly unnerving pronouncement — even worse than Bush-ism. Not unexpectedly, Mr. Giuliani backs all of the most brazen features of the Bush administration’s global agenda. But he tosses in several deeply scary initiatives of his own that George W. never touched.

If Vietnam created ” encampmentees”, what would he call those held illegally at Guantanamo for 3 years?
