All I can say is YIKES! I was lucky to be able to travel to Antarctica two years ago and am now riveted to all stories about the ship that sank yesterday in that region. It is a cold, barren and beautiful location. I cannot imagine evacuating the ship and circling the sinking vessel in those little Zodiacs and lifeboats for hours before help arrived. Gulp! There are some terrific slide shows and interviews on the New York Times website today if you are interested in seeing more about this travel nightmare. Fortunately no one was hurt and these travelers have some great tales to tell as they wind their way to their respective homes. If you are interested in some of my own photos, not at all tragic, of that aforementioned trip, go here and here. Above is a photo of the ship I traveled on (just like the one that sank).
