Oh Eliot, we hardly knew ye! March 11, 2008

That seismic thud we heard yesterday afternoon was another politician who became reckless, careless, arrogant and stupid. Eliot Spitzer our 48 year old Governor is toast. I think he is probably working out a deal with the Feds to avoid an indictment. The Federal sting operation caught him named and on tape as as Client #9 (a friend in NJ – SMR – cleverly thought the NY Post headline today might be Love Potion #9.) If you are curious, the Post’s headline was in humongous type : HO NO!

Spitzer has hired a pricey (that seems to be his thing) lawyer to defend him. If he had endeared the New York public to his first 13 months in office he might have had a fighting chance but he has done amazingly stupid things in that tenure. The public has no pity on a public figure that they do not like.

Some of Spitzer’s more high profile cases as Attorney General are listed here. He went after Wall Streeter’s with a vengence and I am sure there was lots of smiling felons in New York white collar prisons when they heard that seismic thud.

dpaterson.jpgSo who is David Paterson? “In 2002, David Paterson was elected minority leader of the New York State Senate, the first non-white legislative leader in New York’s history. In 2004 in Boston, he became the first visually impaired person to address a Democratic National Convention. And 2006 saw Mr. Paterson make history again by being elected New York’s first African-American lieutenant governor. “ Link here for more details on our next Governor.

The irony in this entire mess is that Joe Bruno, Spitzer’s Repugnant nemesis in Albany, will become Lt. Governor when Spitzer resigns. And guess what? There is an ongoing Federal investigation against Bruno too. Stay tuned.

–  Let’s not forget that today there is another primary in Mississippi. Look for more Hillary death knells by the media at today’s end.

–  I know I always leave you laughing at the end of a post, but I am not in a laughing mood today.
