ohno.jpgAnother smoking gun is found: It was not enough that we know the Bush gang paid no attention to the headline grabbing “Bin Laden to attack Buildings in the US with Airplanes” now we find this smoking gun. In a Q&A after delivering a speech, disappointing AG Michael Mukasey said that officials “shouldn’t need a warrant when somebody with a phone in Iraq picks up a phone and calls somebody in the United States because that’s the call that we may really want to know about. And before 9/11, that’s the call that we didn’t know about. We knew that there has been a call from someplace that was known to be a safe house in Afghanistan and we knew that it came to the United States. We didn’t know precisely where it went.” GASP!

Watch Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow dissect this topics for word for word analysis and again, they get it right:

– Follow up on the WalMart/Deborah Shank story: Wal-Mart is dropping an effort to collect over $400,000 in health care reimbursement from a former employee who is confined to a southeast Missouri nursing home since she suffered brain damage in a traffic accident. It will not seek to collect money the Shanks won in an injury lawsuit against a trucking company for the accident. The lawyers went on to say””Occasionally others help us step back and look at a situation in a different way. This is one of those times.” So, guess what? The publicity that was garnered after Olbermann started speaking out on this issue gathered force and WalMart was ‘encouraged’ to change its mind.

– Speaking of sharks: Let us bid farewell to Bertha the 43 year old sand tiger shark who lived at the New York Aquarium. She has lived at the Coney Island facility since 1965. Adieu!

This depressing article entitled Homophobia rife in British society, landmark equality survey finds out of Great Britain is the perfect time to present this video:

– Let’s hear it for Roger Ebert. He will resume writing reviews later this month, but will not rejoin his syndicated TV show because he’s still unable to speak. He is, of course, famous for his “thumbs-up” or “thumbs-down” critiques, had surgery in 2006 to remove a cancerous growth on his salivary gland. He also had emergency surgery that year after a blood vessel burst near the site of the operation. In case you missed yesterday’s article in the NY Times about the demise of print critics in many newspapers, here is that story.

– Update on Petra the Swan. Poor Petra has been abandoned by her new love and is being returned to her plastic one.

– If you missed Al Gore on 60 Minutes last Sunday here is a snippet of what might have been (big, big sigh):

– If this were my cat and dog – my dog would not have survived. Your smile for the day.
