Yes, people are getting fatter but NYC is getting thinner. It seems that after a more accurate measurement of the City it has been determined that we are 17 square miles smaller than we thought. We have shrunk from 322 square miles of land down to 304.8. And you thought it was hard finding an apartment before? Gasp! A team spent months analyzing, recalculating and came up with our new numbers.”17 square miles could accommodate 13 more Central Parks, nearly a third of Washington, D.C., about three dozen versions of Vatican City and nearly two dozen replicas of Monaco. If 17 square miles were populated at Manhattan’s density, New York might be home to as many as 1.1 million more people. At the price of an acre in Midtown, as recently computed by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, 17 square miles could be worth $1 trillion.”

– Have you been worrying (albeit with much guilt) more about the black and white pandas than the unfathomable nameless numbers of Chinese people that have been killed or hurt during last week’s earthquake? Watch this cell phone video taken on May 19th of the rescue of some of the pandas by their  handlers at the Wolong National Nature Reserve in the area.

– McCain needs to be shown for what he really thinks and does and not as the media portrays him as being:

Rove gets a subpoena: After much legal wrangling with Rove’s attorney, the House Judiciary Committee finally said enough is enough and issued a subpoena to the turd blossom to appear on July 10th to answer questions about whether the White House improperly meddled with the Justice Department. Raise your hands if you think Rove will be forthcoming? Counting hands?

– Oh those wild and wacky Repugnant Senators. Some of them (75-22) have broken ranks and voted with the Democrats to add support for veterans and the unemployed on a bill paying for another year of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Guess what? Bush plans to veto the bill because he (and McCain) believe that there would be too many incentives in this bill for GI’s not to re-up. Stay tuned.

–  I don’t know about you but I have been following that wacky story out of Texas (where else?) about the 400 or so fundamentalist kids who were taken away from their parents and have been held in child services’ hands. Well, a Texas appeals court that the state had no right to take more than 400 children from a polygamist sect’s ranch. This could unravel one of the biggest child-custody cases in U.S. history. Stay tuned.

–  Brilliant bird finally gets rid of its nemesis.
