Up up and away! If you want to get a sensational view of Central Park hurry over to Cherry Hill (close to West 72nd Street) and hop into the helium balloon.  The 45-foot (13.72-meter) diameter envelope is tethered to the ground and raised and lowered by a winch for a 10-minute hover above the park. The balloon fits four people and one operator from the company that is operating the activity, Aeroballoon. The balloon ride marks the 150th anniversary of Central Park, the U.S.’s first major urban park, created by architects Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux and opened to the public in 1858. The balloon event lasts only until August 22nd. If you can’t get over there – enjoy my photos and 90 second video from my experience last week.

–  Countdown’s ‘Bushed’ is a continuing series of the scandals that emanate out of the bush administration. Check out these three from Thursday night with close attention to the ‘do as I say – not as I do’ Bush with his head spinning statement.

–  Adoring fans of Elvis are keeping the yearly vigil that commemorates the anniversary of his death. The vigil runs into the early morning, is the highlight of a week long series of fan-club meetings, dances and Elvis-impersonator contests to  Elvis died at Graceland on Aug. 16, 1977. He was 42.

–  Tatiana the tiger follow up: This story has amazing legs. One of the two brothers wounded in a tiger attack last Christmas at the San Francisco Zoo is now headed to state prison for an unrelated incident. A Santa Clara County judge ruled that Paul Dhaliwal violated his probation multiple times and sentenced him to 16 months in state prison. Paul Dhaliwal’s rap sheet includes everything from evading arrest to probation violations for fleeing from sheriff’s deputies while pushing speeds more than 130 mph on the highway. He and his older brother Kulbir, who is due in court next week to face his own set of charges, were hoping to win a sizable sum of money after they filed a negligence and defamation suit against the city of San Francisco and the zoo in March. Hours after the filing the lawsuit, Paul Dhaliwal was arrested in a Target store in San Leandro on suspicion of shoplifting Nintendo Wii video game controllers, leading a judge to decide that Dhaliwal had violated probation on a previous charge. Kulbir Dhaliwal will be in Santa Clara County Superior Court on Monday to face misdemeanor charges of public drunkenness and resisting arrest connected to the same run-in with police that his brother pleaded guilty to this week.

–  A shout out to Michael Phelps on his eight Gold Medal accomplishment. Super TV watching. Did you know that along with those gorgeous eight medals, SPEEDO is giving him $1 million dollars?

–  Sometimes you just want the myth to continue, right? This week’s hoopla over ‘proof’ of Sasquatch apparently turns out to be another hoax. Results from tests on genetic material from alleged remains of Bigfoot, failed to prove the existence of the mythical half-ape and half-human creature. The photo proof was of a hairy lump stuffed into a container resembling a refrigerator. One of the two samples of DNA said to prove the existence of the Bigfoot came from a human and the other was 96 percent from an opossum, said scientist, Curt Nelson,  who performed the analysis.
