There are lots of stories out there that are not getting the coverage that they deserve because of the duo hurricanes called IKE and PALIN (and they are both destructive forces). So I thought I would write about some of the other stories that I have been following along with the daily dose of Palin.

–  Al Franken won his bid to go against Norm Coleman for the Senate seat in Minnesota. I have sent Al Franken money for his campaign and can now be guaranteed that his campaign will phone me several more times a week for a contribution. So this is my new plan and perhaps you should think about this too. My two senators are are not up for re-election this year. So I am going to support Al and perhaps another Senator who might be able to grab a seat from the Repugnants. Regardless of what happens in the Presidential race we MUST keep hold of the House and the Senate and build on our majority so that we can actually pass some legislation and be able to override what will surely be many vetoes from a McSame administration. –  Check out this article about which seats are really ‘up for grabs’ and pick a Senate race to follow and send some Democrat a little money. I am thinking about New Hampshire. Any thoughts or suggestions?

There are 21 Repugnant seats up for grab as opposed to 12 Democratic seat.

Democratic

* Max Baucus (D-MT)
* Joseph Biden (D-DE)
* Richard Durbin (D-IL)
* Tom Harkin (D-IA)
* Tim Johnson (D-SD)
* John Kerry (D-MA)
* Mary Landrieu (D-LA)
* Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ)
* Carl Levin (D-MI)
* Mark Pryor (D-AR)
* Jack Reed (D-RI)
* John Rockefeller (D-WV)

Republican

* Lamar Alexander (R-TN)
* Wayne Allard (R-CO)
* Saxby Chambliss (R-GA)
* Thad Cochran (R-MS)
* Norm Coleman (R-MN)
* Susan Collins (R-ME)
* John Cornyn (R-TX)
* Larry Craig (R-ID)
* Elizabeth Dole (R-NC)
* Pete Domenici (R-NM)
* Michael Enzi (R-WY)
* Lindsey Graham (R-SC)
* Chuck Hagel (R-NE)
* James Inhofe (R-OK)
* Mitch McConnell (R-KY)
* Pat Roberts (R-KS)
* Jeff Sessions (R-AL)
* Gordon Smith (R-OR)
* Ted Stevens (R-AK)
* John Sununu (R-NH)
* John Warner (R-VA)

–  Sure, sure. The Hadron Collider started up the other day and did not blow up the world or suck us all into that black hole (yet). I wrote about this on August 24th. Check out this latest article and video on National Geographic.

–  Jack Abramoff got his punishment doled out to him last week. A federal judge immediately lobbed two years off of his four more years in the pokey sentence because he has been so cooperative.

Bruce Ivins, the guy that committed suicide six weeks ago and is now the only suspect in the unsolved anthrax killings back in 2001 has added another twist to this story. He said if his remains were not cremated and his ashes not scattered or spread on the ground, he would give to Planned Parenthood of Maryland” $50,000 knowing that his wife hated that organization. This guy apparently had loads of issues.

– How many times do we have to hear that the cover up is often worse than the crime. Troopergate Judge Stephen Branchflower has subpoenaed First Dude Todd Palin in this growing controversy. Check out Rachel Maddow and Mike Isikoff on this story:

– And who does not love a conspiracy?

The National Enquirer (yes, that paper of record) has a new story about Sarah Palin’s son, Track, who just got deployed. Apparently he is quite a party guy, addict and thief. Yes, I know, you do not think the ‘kids’ should be dragged into this thing, but gimme a break. If any of this is true what we have here is a woman who has an out of control family. If she cannot control her own kids, how would she handle larger issues? Also – if you are going to have the gumption to run for National office you better believe your family is fair game. More excerpts here and here.

–  If you have the time today, read this investigative piece from the front page of today’s New York Times, entitled, Once Elected, Palin Hired Friends and Lashed Foes. Her style sounds reminiscent of the thugs presently occupying the White House and environs. And it apears that the reason Todd Palin is called ‘First Dude’ is that he seems to co-govern with the Lady Palin.

–  Frank Rich always manages to assess the situation best. Read today’s column called: The Palin-Whathisname Ticket.

– Finally, here is Sarah Palin pointing that finger and laughing her way through the discussion with Charlie Gibson about global warming. Watch her rewrite her resume and experience in this 10 minute segment and see some important fact checking at the end of the clip.

–  See some fabulous faces from the Central Park Zoo this week.

–  Watch some very playful Western Lowland Gorillas I videos at the Bronx Zoo in early September:

– In the always leave ‘me laughing mode. Watch Bill Maher’s NEW RULES from Friday night:
