goteamgoDoesn’t it seem as if Obama is President now? It is as if our lame duck has gone into hiding. Think he is packing up his stuff? It is reassuring to see Obama march his ‘team’ out on any given day. I think it was Jon Stewart who said that Obama is hiring so many people he, alone, is solving the unemployment problem. Anyway – so far, I like his choices. It seems like a good recipe. Some sugar and some spice. Let’s see how it all goes once January 20th arrives. I will miss our Junior Senator from New York but I think she is a brilliant choice. Now, who will take her place?

I have been betting the Lobo farm on the fact that Washington DC would be able to legitimately get a voice and be able to vote once Obama became President. “With Barack Obama’s election, along with Democratic gains in the Senate, Norton — the District of Columbia’s non-voting delegate to the House of Representatives — is poised to become a full-fledged Representative, giving DC a voting member of Congress for the first time in the nation’s history. ” Looks like I will not be losing the farm after all.

–  The Georgia Senate runoff is today. I am not at all optimistic about a Blue team victory. Check out this exchange:

–  A very local news item. If you live anywhere near Madison Square Park – A Diamond Is Forever presents the “Unbreakable Kiss” at Madison Square Park on Dec 1 until Dec 4 from 2pm-8pm. Come by and share a loving moment with your significant other. I have been watching from the ground as I walk my dog, Benny and can also see it from my window as couples come by and share a kiss in front of a temporary exhibit.

–  So the Government has finally come around to what most of us who live in the real world already knew. We are in a recession. My bright young friend, Erica, has been writing about recession on her blog for quite awhile. Check out her thoughts at Recession This!  From good old standby wikipedia – A recession is a contraction phase of the business cycle, or “a period of reduced economic activity.” The U.S. based National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) defines a recession more specifically as “a significant decline in economic activity spread across the economy, lasting more than a few months, normally visible in real GDP growth, real personal income, employment (non-farm payrolls), industrial production, and wholesale-retail sales.”Some business and investment glossaries add to the general definition that recessions are often indicated by two consecutive quarters quarters of negative growth (or contraction) of GDP.

–  If only we knew earlier:

–  Why are we not hearing any news about the takeover of the Suvarnabhumi airport in Bangkok? Perhaps the Moombai massacre took priority but can you imagine if protesters had taken over JFK airport? That would be a 24 hour news cycle with graphics up the yang yang. The latest news is murky but it seems that the protesters are allowing some planes to land. I had a three hour layover in that airport last January. It is so big  and has so many security checkpoints that it took the entire three hours to get to our connecting flight.

Pardon of the Day:
