aspittleIt is almost time for all of the Senate cliffhangers to come to an end. On Tuesday, January 6th, the 111th Senate will come to order. Hmm  – Obama is going to be the 44th President. Is there some type of numbers things going on here? Oy – I digress. Will they seat Roland Burgess, the Blogojevich choice? When will David Paterson tell everyone he has chosen Caroline Kennedy? Will Hillary show up on Tuesday? Will Joe Biden show up? How about Colorado? Who will Joe Lieberman dis? And then of course, there is Minnesota. Will Norm Coleman block the door with Minnesota Vikings? It looks like our guy, Al Franken is now up by 225 votes. Stay tuned.

– This just in – Former Democratic National Committee chairman Terry McAuliffe said on Saturday he intends to run for governor of Virginia.

–  Much is being said about our departing thug. That adage ‘ if you have nothing nice to say about someone, do not ay anything at all’ is falling by the wayside. Here is an absorbing and lengthy article from the new Vanity Fair about what some on the Bush team are saying. “The threat of 9/11 ignored. The threat of Iraq hyped and manipulated. Guantánamo and Abu Ghraib. Hurricane Katrina. The shredding of civil liberties. The rise of Iran. Global warming. Economic disaster. How did one two-term presidency go so wrong? A sweeping draft of history—distilled from scores of interviews—offers fresh insight into the roles of George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, and other key players. ”

Frank Rich also chimes in today with some of his parting shots. Bring ’em on guys. “The last NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll on Bush’s presidency found that 79 percent of Americans will not miss him after he leaves the White House. He is being forgotten already, even if he’s not yet gone. You start to pity him until you remember how vast the wreckage is. It stretches from the Middle East to Wall Street to Main Street and even into the heavens, which have been a safe haven for toxins under his passive stewardship. The discrepancy between the grandeur of the failure and the stature of the man is a puzzlement. We are still trying to compute it.”

–  Steve Clemons speaks with Bart Gellman about Dick Cheney. Prepare to pound the table as ‘the dark force’ is revealed.
