Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Filibuster? February 6, 2009

waitingIt is time for a vote. I am angry about the nonsense in Washington and I assume you are too. I say bring on a filibuster. What are the Democrats so afraid of about fighting a filibuster? It is good drama and ‘we’ will win. Today is the day to start fighting back. Paul Krugman chimes in  as does the NY Times Editorial. ‘We’re happy to see President Obama getting tough with Congressional Republicans who are trying to sabotage the stimulus and recovery bill and bring even greater ruin on the economy. Since Mr. Obama campaigned on the promise of bipartisanship, we hope he will also bring his hammer down on shortsighted Democrats who are threatening their own brand of havoc.’

One more thing about these ‘shovel ready’ jobs in the stimulus package. Has anyone else thought about the fact that the lion’s share of these construction jobs will go to men? Just sayin’.

–  Is anyone else upset about the deal that was made in New Hampshire? Senator Gregg would not take the job as Secretary of Commerce unless a Republican was chosen to fill his seat. Why isn’t this extortion? Can anyone explain that to me?

–  On January 19th, Keith Olbermann gave a Special Commentary.  I wondered at that time when his next Special Comment would be given. Well, we did not have to wait even a month for one of his tirades. Last night, he commented on Dick ‘the dark force’ Cheney‘s lunatic interview with politic.com that I addressed in yesterday’s post. Does it count that he is still commenting on the previous thuggish administration? Not really. But it was a good tirade. If you missed it, here it is. I am waiting for him to blast the Repugnants on their insane obstructionist stand over the stimulus package. Keith? Where are you on this topic?

–  Keith, in almost 11 minutes of air time, accuses Dick Cheney of using made up statistics and nonsensical reasoning to extend the Bush Administration’s reign of fear over Americans weeks after voters resoundingly rejected Cheney’s un-American world view.

–  In case you need a much needed laugh, check out this hysterical great Obama impression. He is reading the letter that Bush left for him in the Oval Office.

–  The salesman-in-Chief got on the stick yesterday. I’m buying!

–  As you know, Justice Ginsberg is recuperating from pancreatic surgery at NY’s Sloan Kettering Hospital. Should  I go visit her? I heard on the radio that the fact that she is already a colon cancer survivor bodes well for this fight too. We are with you Ruth. FYI – Ruth Bader Ginsberg is a graduate of James Madison High School in Brooklyn (my alma mater). Go black and gold.

–  Eight is TOO much. Are you as incensed as I am over that woman who had the litter of eight children? In her first, cashing it in interview, she reveals why she had so many children. She was depressed! In her first interview since giving birth to octuplets, Nadya Suleman tells NBC she wanted a huge family to make up for the isolation she says she always felt as an only child. In a brief excerpt of the interview released Thursday, the 33-year-old single mother tells “Today” show anchor Ann Curry she had a dysfunctional childhood and sought to erase that with the closeness children could bring. NBC says the full interview will air Monday. Aurgh!

– Yesterday in 100 seconds thanks to Talking Points Memo:

–  I am tired of winter. How about you?

Great speech by Obama. He needs to take the offensive much stronger now. I think people are starting to realise just how bitter the Republicans have become.

Even though it wasn’t the real Obama, I have no doubt that was the real letter W left for him. Very funny!
