yikesWhat the heck is going on? The clenched teeth, clenched fist and most likely clenched anus’ of the Obstructionist Repugnants have crossed the line. In yet another eye popping political gotcha moment, Senator Judd Gregg has changed his mind and decided that he does not want to be Commerce Secretary and will not seek reelection in his home state of vermont. What the f**k!

So here is the thing – the guy that wanted to actually vote to get rid of the Commerce Department got it in his mind that if he took over that department he could change the rules of the upcoming, all important 2010 Census and only count people, perhaps, who looked just like him. Well, that is not how it is done. You have to count everyone – man, woman and child. Illegal, legal, cross gendered, whatever. That is how we decide how many representatives there will be in Congress. For instance, NY will  be losing a Congressperson because we have lost population,. Utah will be gaining a Rep because, well, because I guess Mormons have lots and lots of children (you know, in a Big Love sort of way). The White House decided to have the next Census director report to senior White House staffers as well as the commerce secretary. Gregg did not like that at all so what does he do? He cries ‘foul’ and leaves the playing field.

“the guy that wanted to actually vote to get rid of the Commerce Department got it in his mind that if he took over that department he could change the rules of the upcoming, all important 2010 Census and only count people, perhaps, who looked just like him.”

Gregg merely voted against emergency funding for the Census in 2000. Where in the world do you get the idea he wanted to change the Census rules, let alone make the wild and unfounded charge that he only wanted to count white people? You can’t seriously believe that, can you? Because any fair-minded and reasonable person wouldn’t, I’ll assume you meant it as an attempt at humor.

The fact is that Obama made a dumb pick by choosing a man for the letter “R” after his name so he could falsely claim bipartisanship, then promptly showed he didn’t intend to give the man any real power by removing the Census from his control. Why would Gregg stay under those circumstances?

I just wish Obama would stop this bipartisanship stuff… Obviously, the R’s have no intention of being bipartisan. To them it means they get everything they want, or they won’t play at all. It’s the same attitude they demonstrated during 8 years of foreign policy negotiations: The other side has to cave on all points, then we can talk. Otherwise, get out the guns.
