13Today is Friday the 13th. After a very brief search, it turns out that there are three terms for a fear of this particular day. There is Triskaidekaphobia, Paraskevidekatriaphobics (these folks not only fear Friday the 13th, but also fear the number 13)  and Friggatriskaidekaphobia. Therapist Dr Donald Dossey, whose specialty is treating people with irrational fears, coined the term paraskevidekatriaphobia.  Dr Dossey claims that when you can pronounce the word paraskevidekatriaphobia you are cured of the irrational fear. This year, we have three Fridays the 13th. The next one is in November. The Turks so disliked the number 13 that it was practically expunged from their vocabulary.   Many cities do not have a 13th Street or a 13th Avenue.  Many buildings don’t have a 13th floor (including my apartment house).  Hotels do not have room number 13.  Even the opera houses in Italy avoid this number.  For some explanations of Friday the 13th myths check out this article.

It’s friggin’ Cheney that’s scarier than superstition.

I hear in Las Vegas, that they’re concerned with another threat: Stackthedeckophobia………

And just because it’s CALLED 12A, doesn’t mean we don’t think it’s really the 13th floor.
Who knew there’d be so much to write about on the 13th!
