moronsNorth Korea launched that missile yesterday.  Is that a shot across the bow?  How ironic is it that while George W. Bush worried so about the non-existent WMD’s in Iraq,  North Korea was actually making WMDs. North Korea claims the rocket was designed to propel a satellite into space, but most of the sane world viewed it as an effort to prove it is edging toward the capability to shoot a nuclear warhead on a longer-range missile. Gads. On the good news front – let’s give a shout out to Iowa.  Yes, Iowa. The Iowa Supreme Court overturned the ban on gay marriage. Iowa. Go figure.

–  Continuing on the North Korea connection today — Rachel Maddow had an interesting editorial/analysis piece Friday night about ‘chickens coming home to roost‘. She said “We had to know that the Bush/Cheney policies of torture and imprisoning suspects for years and years without charge would come back to bite us in the ass, right”? She hopes the Obama administration is able to use diplomacy to undo the damage of the Bush years, and bring Laura Ling and Euna Lee, two reporters being held in North Korea, safely home.

–  Yesterday, Charles M. Blow has a terrific column called ‘Pitchforks and Pistols‘ about the increasing purchases of guns by our citizenry. I urge you to read it. Maureen Dowd has an interesting column today on ‘The First Shrink’Frank Rich is back this week too. I miss him when he is away.  “Change is hard. Change is traumatic. Sending a juicy C.E.O. — or six — to the gallows is at most a crowd-pleasing opening act to the heavy lifting of reform and rebuilding we still await’.

–  More on the continuation of Bush Repugnant policies. Rachel Maddow ‘SLAMS’ Republican North Carolina Senator Richard Burr becuase of his obstruction of confirming Tammy Duckworth to the Veterans Administrations.

–  In an unrelated matter, Police say Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s sister-in-law is accused of breaking into the same home twice to steal money. Now, I am not one to criticize individuals for what members of their family do – but you gotta say – this is a good one.  From Jonathan Turleys blog: The ongoing series of Palin Peyton Place should focus attention on the need for politicians to move away from the moralistic and divisive politics that characterized the Palin “small town values and family values” campaign. Had Palin not used her family and her town as a critical part of her campaign, such matters would be dismissed as matter for tabloid interest alone.

–  In an ‘only in America’ story – do we really need a ‘Chia Obama‘ head?

–  ‘Cause this makes me laugh:

Here are some photos of the fabulous residents of the Central Park Zoo.
