Today is the official opening of the sensational new Himalayan Highlands habitat at the Central Park Zoo. Thanks to an amazing design by Sue Chin, beautiful horticulture mostly by our own Todd Comstock and financial support from Allison Maher Stern, we can all now finally enjoy three BIG CATS at our zoo.

For those that have not been to the zoo in awhile try to imagine a physical transformation of the space that used to house our river otters (now at the Prospect Park Zoo). You will not believe it is the same place. The Zoo seems twice as large (even though it is not).  The Highlands not only houses the three snow leopards  but in nearby habitats you will find black storks, a black-necked crane, some pheasants, the red pandas and soon, a Reeve’s muntjac.

After 19 years of visitors asking me ‘Don’t you have any big cats?’  I can now enthusiastically say ‘Yes.’

Introducing Molly, our three year old snow leopard. I can hardly wait to see Molly in our first winter snow.
