heartsNot surprising, it turns out that world loves Obama. This love breaking out all over the world is another clear indictment of how much George W. Bush and his group of thugs were hated. Imagine going to a summit where the leader of the free world will actually engage in a discussion without resorting to shoulder massages, goofy sneers or stupid frat jokes. Those are just some of the reasons Obama was such a big hit in the G20 meetings. Don’t believe me? Check out this item from thinkprogress insinuating that Bush did not even know what the G20 was. Gasp.

–  Here’s what happened yesterday:

–  Oh oh – Pat Leahy suggests that truth commission is ‘not going to happen.’ What does this mean? Does this mean the torture/war crimes issue is going in another direction?  Perhaps with a special prosecutor? Stay tuned to this Judy-One-Note issue.

–  If you missed the piece that Jon Stewart did on Rush Limbaugh‘s rant that he was going to leave NYC because of the possibility of having to pay higher taxes. “For years, for years, for years, New Yorkers have done everything in our power to get this guy to leave town,” Stewarts joked. “We passed laws making it tougher for hot dog vendors to sell along the streets. We hold gay pride parades and there are barely any gay people in the city so we shipped them in.” It is a hoot.

–  And then there is the Ted Stevens mess. From the NY Times today – “For eight years the Bush Justice Department cynically put politics and ideology above the law. So it is gratifying to see how Attorney General Eric Holder is handling the case against Ted Stevens, the former Alaska senator who was convicted last year on seven felony counts of ethics violations.” Does this mean that Ted Stevens was innocent? Not at all. But the Justice Dept should be held to higher standards than Ted Stevens. Eric Holder has lots to do. Stay tuned.

–  This is why the world loves Obama:

smilebyBack to my own bed, my own bath and the only thing I was obsessed with on a terrific beach vacation – Mark Begich and the lengthy Alaska Senate race count. Convicted felon, Ted Stevens, will not be back to the Senate and we, thankfully, will not have to endure a ‘will she or won’t she’ endless news cycle  whether Sarah Palin will run for that seat. So a very happy birthday to 85 year old Ted Stevens. He can quietly celebrate his retirement and upcoming court appeals without having to worry about the business of being a Senator and we all can get a Palin break. Congratulations to the Blue team’s 58th Senate seat, Mark Begich.

–  The other story that has plagued me for years is the Valerie Plame/Joe Wilson nightmare. Well, it looks like this story still has legs as Valerie Plame Wilson and her husband, former ambassador Joseph Wilson, plan to take their civil lawsuit against Bush administration officials to the Supreme Court after a federal circuit court refused to rehear the case on Monday.

–  For those that are keeping score – Obama got 67% of the vote to McCain’s 46%

Obama: 67,065,042 (52.7%, 365 EVs)

McCain: 58,420,587 (45.9%, 162 EVs)

Alaska certainly has had their share of attention this election cycle, eh? And now, crotchety ‘series’ of tubes’ Ted Stevens has been found guilty of 7 counts of ethic abuses (what’s with Alaska and a problem with ethics)?  Will this give the Blue team its filibuster proof 60th Senate seat? Now that would be a grand trifecta victory come next Tuesday. Having those 60 seats in the Senate will allow a Blue team agenda to go forth and ‘spread the wealth.’ Stay tuned.

–  Watch Rachel on the subject with David Korn of Mother Jones Magazine.

–  The new description of Sarah Palin is that she has gone ‘rogue.’ Apparently she is not on message with the ‘other’ part of the McSame campaign and she also has a problem remembering that everything one says nowadays is recorded and remembered. Check out what she said about ‘spreading the wealth’ right before she was nominated for Veep. A few weeks before she was nominated for Vice-President, she told a visiting journalist—Philip Gourevitch, of this magazine—that “we’re set up, unlike other states in the union, where it’s collectively Alaskans own the resources. So we share in the wealth when the development of these resources occurs.” Perhaps there is some meaningful distinction between spreading the wealth and sharing it (“collectively,” no less), but finding it would require the analytic skills of Karl the Marxist. The entire article can be found in this week’s New Yorker.

–  Watch McGoofy try to remember the big guns who are supporting him. Gasp.

–  Keith had one of his Campaign Comments last night about Miss Ashley ‘backwards ‘B’ Todd and her idiot hoax.  McCain Should Condemn His Staffer’s Racist Hoax:

–  In the all too common morons with guns stories,  the Feds disrupt alleged skinhead plot to kill Obama. How many of these do we have to endure?

–  Back to the fruit fly issue. In a bizarre Lobo note, I happen to know two people (via two degrees of separation) who study fruit flies.  Check out this website from one of the people I know who studies fruit flies on this issue.

–  Watch Conservative Christopher Hitchens nail Sarah Palin’s views on fruit flies and creationism.

–  David Letterman on McGoofy thinking on his feet:

–  Jay Leno with Michele Obama last night – Part one. Watch it before NBC takes it down. If they take it down you can find it on NBC and on the Huffington POst.

–  Part Two:

Vengeance and Justice will be mine? July 29, 2008

Why am I so enraged by the deeds of the Bush administration – beyond the obvious reasons? Why does it bother me so much that no one gets punished for their misdeeds, lies and abuses of power? I am not ashamed to say I want vengeance.

I happened across a great article in today’s NYTimes by Patricia Cohen – called, Calculating the Economics of an Eye for an Eye “Vengeance: it is as old as humanity, as natural as blinking. It has been examined and pondered by anthropologists, psychologists, sociologists, philosophers, legal scholars, poets, playwrights and even primatologists, who have recently found that chimpanzees will punish thieves by overturning their food tables so they cannot enjoy the fruits of their crime.” Economnists have recently tried to measure vengeance in real world terms. It turns out that personal attributes — age, income, gender — as well as the characteristics of one’s culture and country contribute to a person’s desire for revenge, Mr. Mocan said. “A feeling such as vengeance,” he said, “which can be considered primal, is nonetheless influenced by the economic and social circumstances of the person and the country he or she lives in.”

–  Okay – so will vengeance be mine in the not so shocking discovery yesterday that the  (In)Justice Department under former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales routinely violated federal hiring laws by using politics, sexual preference and other illegal criteria to replace qualifications?  The report found that qualified candidates for jobs were rejected because a spouse was involved in Democratic politics or because either the candidate or a candidate’s wife was believed to be a lesbian. The report is a damning indictment of a Justice Department destroyed internally by political motives with no regard to laws. So will anyone go down for this? Not if AG Mukasey has anything to say about it (and he does).  Chances are not good.  Keith talks to Jonathan Turley about this development.

–  Ted Stevens, the powerful Alaskan Senator, who believes the Internet(s) is a series of tubes has been indicted on seven counts of falsely reporting hundreds of thousands of dollars in services he received from a company that helped renovate his home.

And for laughs because goodness knows we need them –

Here is something to make your head explode. Oliver Stone’s work in progress has a trailer. Does anyone know the address of the World Court in the Hague? AURGH!
