The countdown has begun. It is a mere nine days until we cast our vote, bite our nails and await the TV talking heads to call the election state by state. I read the entire article today’s New York Times Magazine section called The Making (and Remaking) of McCain. Fascinating stuff about the behind the scenes thought process that went into this bipolar campaign. The part about the selection of Sarah Palin is required reading for all of the political junkies out there.

–  Oh oh – According to Sarah Palin, Obama has gone from a Socialist to a Communist. This woman needs a choke collar. Gasp!

–  According to demconwatch.com as of 10/24, among the top 100 papers, Obama has been endorsed by papers with a circulation of 12.8 Million, McCain by papers with a circulation of 2.5 Million.

–  Maureen Dowd is back and tells it like it is about the McSame Campaign and Sarah Palin’s makeover. Check out this paragraph “In The New York Times Magazine today, Robert Draper reveals that the campaign also hired a former New York stage and screen actress, Priscilla Shanks, to be her voice coach for the convention. The expense was listed in finance reports as Operating Expenditures and Get-Out-The-Vote consulting. Apparently getting out the vote includes teaching a potential vice president the correct way to pronounce “nuclear.”

–  The continuing list of ship jumpers.

–  Newsweek’s Richard Wolffe discusses the truth in the Politico.com report on the infighting between senior McCain aides over Sarah Palin’s stump speeches and her deviations from campaign-approved talking points.

–  Gail Collins writes about our four year electoral college lament. I too live in one of the Blue States that does not get any robo-calling or non-stop ads on TV. I guess that is good news and bad news. Don’t we count at all anymore?

Frank Rich should be required reading. He gets it right each and every week.

– This is what a candidate for Vice President looks like and sounds like. Go Joe the Veep! You have my vote.

–  This week in the best of late night jokes, SNL comes up with a slogan for Bill Clinton, Jon Stewart mocks Palin’s extravagant expenditures on clothes, Colbert dissects Powell’s endorsement, and the hysterical Kimmel spoofs the tension between McCain and Palin –

–  It is that time of year. Boo at the Zoo has become an event all over the US. –  Boo at the Zoo is fun for one and all – especially the monkeys. Check out some of the pumpkin enrichment fun I saw yesterday at the Central Park Zoo.

–  Watch our snow monkeys enjoying pumpkin enrichment.

–  Watch  our Black and White Colobus Monkeys enjoy pumpkin enrichment too.

I could not help but watch some of the Repugnant Convention while at the gym this morning. The new kid on the block, Sarah Palin, had her coming out party. And the crowd went wild. Short of her eating raw meat on stage she is exactly what this convention of very white people wanted to see. She roared at them, bared her teeth, snarled and pretty much damned the opposition party as the ones who are responsible for all of our troubles. There is a frightening disconnect about the Repugnants. They seem to blame the Democrats for all that is wrong. Who do they think has been in charge for the part 7.5 years? Whose ideas have run us into debt, stripped us of our rights and continue to frighten the hell out of us on a daily basis.

Which brings me back to Rudy (aka Mad Max at the Thunderdome).

On the treadmill I use at the gym there is a heart monitor. I was watching to see if my heart raced while viewing clips of last night’s convention. When Sarah Palin spoke and snarled my heart was steady – if anything it went a little lower. When Rudy Giuliani’s face came on screen my heart monitor leapt from the ‘cardio’ mode all the way to ‘high’ on the meter. One step short of a stroke, I think. Good grief! This guy can still piss me off.

The Repugnants roll out Rudy, whose constant stream of hate, intense anger and vitriol get the loyal followers all riled up. He reminds them how scared we should be. He reminds them how we are sitting ducks for the terrorists who are out there. He reminds me of the failures of the Bush administration.

Did anyone hear one single solution to our country’s problems last night? Did anyone hear Bush and Cheney’s name mentioned. By the way – Cheney is somewhere in the Republic of Georgia doing something. Probably sealing a deal for Haliburton.

–  ABC News talked with Ben Stein about John McCain’s “peculiar” choice of Sarah Palin.

–  Oh oh – another microphone goof: Peggy Noonan and Mike Murphy were overheard talking about Sarah Palin on the MSNBC set at the Republican convention.

–  In an unrelated story: A woman convicted of murdering her infant daughter by microwaving her was spared the death penalty Wednesday by a jury that couldn’t reach a unanimous decision.

–  Billy the dog disappeared during the big floods of 2002 in Mozambique. He emerged from the jungle this year, carrying a little monkey on his back, Kiko. They were skinny and half dead, bud they had made it through all these years. Billy had defended kiko from all the dangers of the jungle, including a bunches of savage dogs willing to have kiko as dessert. They are unseparable, Kiko sleeps hugged to billy, they eat together,do everything together and they still are unconfident about humans. Only the two of them, forever.

…abstinence makes the belly larger September 2, 2008

Absence makes the heart grow fonder and abstinence makes the belly larger. Sarah Palin’s 17 year old daughter Bristol is five months pregnant. It seems to me that the VEEP to be nominee, Palin, and her conservative brethrens belief that the best way to make sure kids learn about sex is to deprive them of information and to also firmly insist on abstinence until marriage sex education is the way to approach life. Guess what? It has been proven not to be an effective education tool. Compound this ass backwards approach to sex education with welcoming every new child into this world as part of God’s great plan makes for teenage parents. It once again allows everyone to avoid personal responsibility. Babies having babies is not a good idea. Yes, Palin’s affluence and influence will allow her new grandchild to have the kind of support that most teenage parents do not have. It drains the system and ironically it is a system that the Conservatives want to destroy. If you have the time today, read the top 10 thing you should know about Palin. Perhaps, like Tom Eagleton, the Repugnants will decide this is all too much and is taking the focus away from McSame and Palin will withdraw her name from nomination to ‘spend more time with her ever growing family’. However, knowing how stubborn this group is – I doubt that will happen. But, ya never know. Hurricane Bristol could be their undoing.

–  Watch James ‘crazy’ Carville vs the Congreswoman debate the choice of Palin as VEEP on Larry King:

–  And then there is Tucker Bounds being grilled about the qualifications of Palin:

–  Ever present and hard working, Democracy Now’s host, Amy Goodman, Sharif Abdel Kouddous and Nicole Salazar were arrested by the Minneapolis Police Department yesterday. Charged with conspiracy to riot. Footage from Rick Rowley and Brandon Jourdan. As of this morning they have all been released. Check out further info on the Democracy Now! website.

The thug in the White House continues his charade as Commander in Chief, even though he gives the term ‘lame duck,’ a bad name. His latest bullshit announcement concerns the new GI Bill. The passage of the GI Bill was accomplished because other issues were attached to the legislation. That, of course, is nothing new in Washington. For highlights of the new Bill read this article.

Watch and listen as Keith Olbermann speaks with Senator Jim Webb on this issue:

– Keith was on a roll last night as he also gave one of his Special Comments. This one was dedicated to Barack Obama and his decision to vote in support of the FISA Bill. Obama says he is satisfied with changes made to the original bill, including a provision that will give a secret court, not the White House, the final say on spying procedures. Stay tuned.

– Raise your hand if you are tired of the term ‘swift boating’ or Willie Hortoning’? Can’t each election cycle come up with new crap to slander, smear and otherwise confuse the real issues. You would think that there was nothing to discuss this year with these issues coming back to the surface.

– McSame has nothing new to say. His position on the environment and oil is one big joke – if it were funny.

– If anyone you know is even considering voting for John McCain you might want to remind them about the Bush years and that they would be guaranteed four more of the same incompetence, thuggery and even more loss of our Civil Rights. Read Alternet’s Ten Most Awesomely Bad Moments of the Bush Presidency. I honestly do not know how they narrowed it to ten.

tongueblog.jpgHave you noticed while the horrors are occurring in Myanmar (or is it Burma) various news-people, talking heads and print media refer to the country by one or the other name. I heard Bush speak of Burma and in the very next piece on TV I heard the reference to Myanmar. Read this interesting article on who and why refer to that part of the world differently. My opinion is that regardless of what you call the place something needs to be done to stop the slaughter. Hello? Is there a UN? Anybody home?

– Anybody going to miss this jackass? Repugnant Sen. Pete Domenici of New Mexico intends to retire at the end of his term next year, closing out a 36-year career in Congress.

Domenici would be the fifth Republican senator to decline to seek a new term, giving Democrats an opportunity to expand their majority in the 2008 elections. GOP Sens. John Warner of Virginia, Chuck Hagel of Nebraska, Larry Craig of Idaho and Wayne Allard of Colorado have previously announced plans not to run again.

– Go Ron Paul. It looks like the Stephen Colbert bump helped out this lonely sane voice in the Repugnant race.

–  For those that missed Jon Stewart’s take on the big, all inclusive Repugnant tent, check out this video:

–  If you did not catch the overzealous, hyper Chris Matthews‘ interview with Robert Greenwald and Neocon Nutcase Frank Gaffney, check out the interview.
